Rewrite #3, Week 10

Free pixabay photo Rewrite #3 Link to Original Blog : Week 5, Video Task To me design thinking is a philosophy and a set of tools to help you solve problems creatively. It is also a production process that helps you to organise effectively. It can be loosely divided into three stages these are Pre-production, Production and Post-production. In the YouTube video by Aj & Smart by Johnathan Courtney CEO at AJ & Smart, he shared that if you’re going to be working with anything got to do with design thinking, it is innovation taking the philosophy of design thinking and learning using something like the design sprint as a recipe to run design thinking. I think digital media products that could apply design thinking to would be, films, documentaries, podcasts, vlogs   (Jonathan, 2020) . The three stages of Production are first Pre-production, this is where you would write dialog, find the cast and crew, find out locations, look for props or costumes, think about the ...

Media Representation, Week 10, Video Task

Photo by Markus Spiske from Pexels Media Representation This week I am going to examine the ethics of media and the potential implications for society, I’ll be looking particularly at representation in media and how media deals with representation of different sexualities, ethnicities, cultures, nations and religions. Media texts and popular culture can be very influential in the way that people understand other peoples cultures through media they may not otherwise be familiar with.   Representation of gender, ages, sexualities, ethnicities, cultures, nations, and religion. When the media start to create a world where some of these don’t exist such as no big body people, that is creating a lie, therefore representation is vital to make all people belong together, no race or religion can define you as a person so you shouldn’t let the media portray you or your culture or gender as one. Stereotypes that have been used repeatedly over the years that causes a lack of diversity in r...

Another Revision, Week 9, Reading Task

pixabay photo Hi welcome back to my blog, The blogs I reviewed were  Ryan's Blog  for the week 3 reading task and  Milo's Blog  for the week 6 video task. I think they both did a great job on their blogs, I could just give them suggestions to add the source from where they got their opinion.  I learned from the comments on my blog that I have to start implying my experiences and feelings on the subject from Finn and that I should also add a conclusion paragraph to wrap it all up from Chloe. I also learned from Adam that he liked how I sourced the information on my blog and the way I lay it out. When I did the revise on my blog I implied the feedback which helped me a lot to know what I should be doing. Finn also gave me two good questions to help me make my blog clearer. They were “what’s the difference between Ethics and Morals” so I changed the paragraph to make it clearer on my revised blog. He also asked me “if I had any other examples of dark patterns ...

Rewrite #2, Week 9

pixabay photo Hello , welcome back to my blog this week I will talk about what Ethics provides, Dark Patterns and Propaganda. Ethics provide a framework for understanding and interpreting right and wrong in society.  Ethics are the set of moral principles that guides that person’s behaviour. These morals are shaped by social norms, cultural practices, and religious influences. Ethics reflect beliefs about what is right, what is wrong, what is just, what is unjust, what is good, and what is bad in terms of human behaviour. They are used as a compass to direct how people should behave toward each other and to understand and fulfil their obligations to society and live their lives. Ethics Defined I think the difference between Ethics and Morals is that Ethics leans towards an individual person’s decision of right and wrong whereas Morals emphasises the widely shared societal norms of right and wrong. pixabay photo How dark patterns trick you online Dark patterns are features of in...

Media Compression, Week 9, Video task

Free image from Pixabay Hi and welcome back to my blog, this week I looked at practical digital media production and how media compression works, and why it is important for the quality and delivery of your video. Compressing media is  a method of reducing the amount of storage space needed to save a file . There are a variety of compression techniques that are used. The advantage of compression is the file will take less time to upload, download and transfer from a USB flash drive, a website, or a digital camera. I knew a small bit about compression before watching the videos, but I didn’t know there was that much to it. I knew about how the gigabyte gets its size and higher storage means more storage but I didn’t know exactly how much information it can store. I learned from computer skills – BIT – Binary Digit Computer Skills Course: Bits, Bytes, Kilobytes, Megabytes, Gigabytes, Terabytes 8 bits = 1 Byte which is enough space for a single letter 1,000 Bytes = 1 Kilobyte (...

Finishing Production, Week 8, Project task

Free image from Pixabay Hello, welcome back! This week for our Project, we will be mainly putting all our ideas in order and seeing what information we gathered and what we will talk about during the video. By now we have the script, and we will start shooting once everyone in the group can meet up, if they can't for any reason, I will ask them for a team meeting online after college, to see where everyone is with their project work. If they are happy with the script, I would like to start  recording the audio and record using video to see how the video edits and uploads, and how we're going to back up our work. I have started on the caricature for the animation, which will be used for the introduction for the video, and I have also made some graphics that will play as a slideshow as part of the Online Shaming and Cancel Culture video. After that, I will have images of well-known  celebrities that have been cancelled recently with a voice-over talking ...

Peer Review #2, Week 8, Reading task

Free image from Pixabay Hello welcome back to my blog, Today I will talk about my experience from my second peer review, and how it is going. I now have an idea what to be looking for, such as if they have the correct title, image, image source, and other sources. Since I don’t like criticizing my peer’s work in a harsh way, so I chose the idea of feedforward, because   people don’t take it as personally as feedback. Doing this meant I could focus on the good qualities of the blog post rather than pointing out the bad. I like to give useful suggestions for their future blogs, that might be useful when viewers are reading. I kept SPARK in mind which is a great help to stick to comments which are related to the post.  SPARK teaching-students-give-peer-feedback The Journal Article called “ The Power of Giving Feedback and Receiving Feedback in Peer Assessment” Volume 11, Number 2,(Summer 2019) Lan Li, Valentina Grion , came in very helpful. This journal is aimed f or studen...

Technological evolution, Week 8, Video task

Smart City free photo from Pixababy Hello and welcome back to my blog. In this week’s video task, I was looking at the history of digital media and how it has evolved. I also started to explore what the future of digital media will look like. The history of media literacy closely follows the history of media technology, with each invention and discussion fears follow. ( History of Media Literacy pt 1 ). Free photo from Pixabay Newspapers formed in the 17 th century. Penny press newspapers spread the nation for as little as penny so that they could sell lots of papers and have paid advertisements to make money. In 1950’s television sets came in, years later in 1990 the personal computer and internet revitalized and amazed the media again with life changing technology. In the 1980 is when the first motion picture came out following that was radio broadcast that brought the news, music and more right into the homes of people. ( History of Media Literacy pt 2 ). The late 1890’s Joseph...

Towards Production, Week 6, Project task

Free pixabay photo In this blog, I will talk about how the project is coming along. I have been researching and finding out a lot about people that have been recently canceled. I have also found out that these famous people have been publicly shamed such as   Author JK Rowling, for comments deemed deeply insulting to transgender people. YouTuber Shane Dawson, for old videos of him in blackface, and singer Lana Del Rey, for a controversial Instagram post contrasting herself with black artists.  France24.com   The good tips I picked up from the project videos are when saving an illustration drawing it's best to save PNG for logos and line drawings and it's best to save in JPG for drawings in vector. When saving JPG can leave a white background whereas PNG leaves the shape as it is for your website or printing.   Digital Media Basics I also learned  5 ways to instantly make better videos!   1) Lighting. Best for colour grading. 2) Proper music and sou...
