Towards Production, Week 6, Project task

In this blog, I will talk about how the project is coming along. I have been researching and finding out a lot about people that have been recently canceled. I have also found out that these famous people have been publicly shamed such as  Author JK Rowling, for comments deemed deeply insulting to transgender people. YouTuber Shane Dawson, for old videos of him in blackface, and singer Lana Del Rey, for a controversial Instagram post contrasting herself with black artists. France24.com

The good tips I picked up from the project videos are when saving an illustration drawing it's best to save PNG for logos and line drawings and it's best to save in JPG for drawings in vector. When saving JPG can leave a white background whereas PNG leaves the shape as it is for your website or printing.  Digital Media Basics

I also learned 5 ways to instantly make better videos!

1) Lighting. Best for colour grading.

2) Proper music and sound. Important to match the audio to the sound.

3) Learning software and training. Watch videos and learn.

4) Motion in shots Digitally fake panning and side to side action. Results end up better.

5) Location and time of day best time would be early morning or evening golden hour.

Cinematic Lighting

4 characteristics of light- Direction of light, Colour of light, Quantity of light & Quality of light.

Direction is so important so it gives the right amount of depth to the shot. I learned that the best light is silty above the subject not too high or not too low. When you see the eyes lit up it creates more cinematic shots. Flat lighting gives no shadows it is used in commercials and beauty shots it is cinematic. Paramount butterfly gives a shadow on the nose. Loop lighting is used for rounder faces as it gives a slimmer look. Remnrandt lighting is made by the Dutch painter who used it in his paintings, it gives a triangle of light on the face and has been used in Hollywood films. Spilt lighting gives a super dramatic tougher look that can give the appearance to be masculine and backlight gives a halo or rim of light effect around your subject.

I found out a few tips and there are gadgets to help you produce a better film. Digital media production environments my YouTube studio set up  by Evan Edinger

Checking exposure when setting up can take a bit of time. To get the correct amount of shutter speed 50 is the best number as it gives realistic movement. The gadgets that can help when shooting is an ND filter that can come in handy to make the right amount of brightness into the shot. A sound blanket can help reduce noise, A gimbal tripod for the camera and phone can give the right amount of height. A Grey card for white balance is important. Final cut pro X is a good software to edit.

Other than researching I have been testing out animations and video editing which is really enjoyable. I have got a lapel mic that will help the group project with audio to do the voice-over for our project.

Our group will have a meeting this week and discuss the research each of us has found, after that we will start to make a script for the video and find out more about the location.

I think the best role that would suit me would be to do the directing or editing. I will see what the group thinks and what they would like to do.

Production Process, Week 5, Video task

My thoughts on production process... To me design thinking is a philosophy and a set of tools to help you solve problems creatively. It is also a production process that helps you to organise effectively. It can be loosely divided into three stages these are Pre-production, Production and Post-production. I think it is important to be aware and learn about design thinking and various stages associated with design thinking. In the YouTube video by Aj & Smart by Johnathan Courtney CEO at AJ & Smart he shared that if you’re going to working with anything got to do with design thinking, is innovation taking the philosophy of design thinking and learning using something like the design sprint. As a recipe to run design thinking. I think digital media products that could apply design thinking to would be, films, documentaries, podcasts, vlogs.   Aj & Smart by Johnathan What takes place in the three stages of Production is first Pre-production, This is where ...

Another Revision, Week 9, Reading Task

pixabay photo Hi welcome back to my blog, The blogs I reviewed were  Ryan's Blog  for the week 3 reading task and  Milo's Blog  for the week 6 video task. I think they both did a great job on their blogs, I could just give them suggestions to add the source from where they got their opinion.  I learned from the comments on my blog that I have to start implying my experiences and feelings on the subject from Finn and that I should also add a conclusion paragraph to wrap it all up from Chloe. I also learned from Adam that he liked how I sourced the information on my blog and the way I lay it out. When I did the revise on my blog I implied the feedback which helped me a lot to know what I should be doing. Finn also gave me two good questions to help me make my blog clearer. They were “what’s the difference between Ethics and Morals” so I changed the paragraph to make it clearer on my revised blog. He also asked me “if I had any other examples of dark patterns ...

Reading Task, Week 10

free pixabay photo Hi welcome back to my blog. Today I will talk about how the peer review and the rewriting experience has gone over the semester. I have learned from the peer review task that I should add a bibliography at the end of every blog and add in text citations. I also need to start talking about the experience I have on the topic and how I feel about the topic which I have started to do in my recent blogs and plan to change on my previous blogs. I feel that my writing and reading skills have improved since my first feedback and even more since I got more feedback from other peers. I have received some great feedback overall to help me improve my blogs and know where I can make content easier and more enjoyable to read. Concise writing goal is to use the most effective words. To use the stronger words not always fewer. To get to the main point of the topic. (Arts, 2021) Too wordy sentences such as “It is the governor who signs or vetoes bills. – 9 words. Concise sent...
