Revising writing, Week 6, Reading task

Free pixabay photo During my rewriting process on my blog week 3 reading task, I used the comments as a guide to help me write from a personal aspect. I learned for my next peer review to give comments that will help them when it comes around to doing the rewriting it will benefit them to better their blog. I learned that it's good to break down facts and use a numbered list when giving information and that my blog post was clearly laid out. I was happy to rewrite my blog post because I knew I wanted to change it from a personal view rather than an article. The comments really helped me to change my post because they were really specific on what they thought such as “ . I liked when Kelly broke down facts into bullet points to make them more precise. When Kelly gave her point of view it showed that she researched her topic thoroughly and it made her blog more relatable.  Jenny”, “ The post is very clearly laid out, and the paragraphs are concise and informative. “  In conclusi...

Rewrite #1, Week 6

Free Pixabay Photo Original Blog Post In today's blog, I will talk about my understanding of this paper by Ernest Balajthy "Wiley International Literacy Association" Feb 1984.  In my reading, I found that the main focus of this paper was how to help you study better. S ome practices use the term known as spaced practice or distributed practice. By “ spacing” learning activities out over time for example 1 to 2 hours every other day, or at least once per week, rather than a 12-hour marathon cramming in study sessions, this way you will be able to learn more information and retain it longer. Undoubtedly, the spaced repetition method  is far better than cramming everything in a single study session. That said it is good to note that, manually planning these repetitions can be quite overwhelming.  Spacing allows you to have the opportunity to think and analyze the information critically and widen the viewpoint linked to helping you evaluate critically. I think ...

Media Ethics, Week 6, Video task

Free image from Pixabay Ethics provides a framework for understanding and interpreting right and wrong in society. Ethics are the set of moral principles that guides that person’s behaviour. These morals are shaped by social norms, cultural practices, and religious influences. Ethics reflect beliefs about what is right, what is wrong, what is just, what is unjust, what is good, and what is bad in terms of human behaviour. They are used as a compass to direct how people should behave toward each other and to understand and fulfil their obligations to society and live their lives. Ethics Defined Some philosophers make a distinction between ethics and morals. But many people use the terms ethics and morals interchangeably when talking about personal beliefs, actions, or principles. It's common to say “my ethics prevent me from cheating” or you could use the word morals instead in the sentence.   How dark patterns trick you online. Dark patterns are features of interface design...

Starting Out, Week 5, Project task

Laptop Mac Computer - Free photo on Pixabay   Starting out with my project I am covering online shaming and cancel culture in the project which can consists of public call outs, cancellation of celebrities and influencers, negative reviews, responding to videos & treads, positive social accountability, or cyber bulling. The progress and contribution I have been working on with my group project has been consistently turning up to labs and lectures each week and taking notes. Watching YouTube videos to learn more about filming and audio, both during my free time and on my weekly tasks and blogs.  I have also been trying out video editing also.   I learned to  Master your camera in 20 minutes James Mccranie How to shoot Cinematic video with a smartphone     and to record better sound with a smartphone. The section which I will lead is trying to organize who will do what in the group, I will also try to do animations for the first tim...

Peer Review #1, Week5, Reading Task

My experience from peer review...   I have learned from doing feedback that it isn’t easy. To be able to put your point across in a nice way, learning how to change my mindset on feedback and how I feel when I must give feedback. I don’t like criticizing my peer’s work in a harsh way, so I chose the idea of feedforward, because people do not take it as personally as feedback rather, they tend to listen more attentively to feedforward than feedback. I tried doing feedforward instead of feedback. Doing this meant I could focus on the good qualities of the blog post rather than pointing out the bad. Giving suggestions for the future blogs that might help them achieve a positive change in their blogging. In the article Marshall Goldsmith it has eleven reasons to try feedforward one of my favorite ones is number two. It can be more productive to help people learn to be “right,” than prove they were “wrong.”  Negative feedback often becomes an exercise in “let ...

Production Process, Week 5, Video task

My thoughts on production process... To me design thinking is a philosophy and a set of tools to help you solve problems creatively. It is also a production process that helps you to organise effectively. It can be loosely divided into three stages these are Pre-production, Production and Post-production. I think it is important to be aware and learn about design thinking and various stages associated with design thinking. In the YouTube video by Aj & Smart by Johnathan Courtney CEO at AJ & Smart he shared that if you’re going to working with anything got to do with design thinking, is innovation taking the philosophy of design thinking and learning using something like the design sprint. As a recipe to run design thinking. I think digital media products that could apply design thinking to would be, films, documentaries, podcasts, vlogs.   Aj & Smart by Johnathan What takes place in the three stages of Production is first Pre-production, This is where ...

Media Literacy, Week 4, Reading Task

In this week reading I have read “   (Kirk, n.d.) , (Lennon, n.d.) and lastly, I read the Journal article   (Melissa Tully) . I found the read by Dr Niamh Kirk, a little difficult I didn’t really understand that it is not clear how many posts were removed, if any microtargeting remains unclear. I found that the Ofcom research was very interesting, that nearly half of the UK nation have came across false or misleading information about Covid-19. What made me think twice was personal biases influence news choice and interpretation and can create unfair perceptions of media as hostile to their own viewpoints. (Garrett and Stroud, 2014; Gunther, 1992.) I think about Instagram influencers and how they get paid to show off products as advertising, yet some of the products they wouldn’t use themselves. Digital media requires you to think about who the author is and who the message is directed at and what audience it is aimed at, it’s important to  know where so...

Digital Media, Week 4, Video task

Digital Media, Week 4, Video Task   Digital Media to me before college was mostly graphic design such as logos, posters, advertisements on tv and web, and animations. Since watching the YouTube videos for Introduction to Digital Media, I have since learned that it is really anything got to do with communicating digitally. Such as web, mobile, news, banking, social media, education and work. Skills I think digital media practitioners would need would be, knowledge knowing how to mix design with technology, graphic design, coding with HTML, CSS, JAVA SCRIPT and Adobe. Tools I think digital media practitioners would use would be, Adobe software, pens, pencils, iPad, iPencil, camera, HTML, CSS, JAVA SCRIPT Five ways I think digital media is different from traditional media would be : 1)Tv vs. Social Media, social media platforms have an advantage over television because unlike TV ads social advertising fosters communication between brand and consumer. Streaming online has suc...

Active Reading, week 3, Reading task

Image reference Spaced practice or spaced repetition. WILEY INTERNATIONAL LITERACY ASSOCIATION. Date paper was written: February 1984   My understanding of the topic: This is some practices known as spaced practice or distributed practice. By “ spacing” learning activities out over time  for example, 1 to 2 hours every other day, or at least once per week, rather than a 12-hour marathon cramming session, you will be able to learn more information and retain it longer. Undoubtedly, the spaced repetition method  is far better than cramming everything in a single study session . That said it is good to note that, manually planning these repetitions can be quite overwhelming. Retention is automatic with comprehension and can be predicted by analyzing the text structure, others suggest by interacting factors meaning learning directly and indirectly is a better way to study. Using student-constructed questions to encourage active reading.   Learners have...

Study Skills, week 3, video task

I never really learned how to study. I would try to take the information in. I would reread and rewrite key points so I wouldn’t forget them. Active recall. Quizzing meaning active recall and testing yourself using flash cards, Cornell notes, tagged notes, remnote-flash card app helps to study faster. Spacing – spaced repetition, spread out your time overtime, timetables, boxes, repetition software. Mixing – altering between different options making connections. Previously when I read and write I would usually take longer to read every part to make sure I didn’t miss any information now learning how to scan I can do this a faster way Pseudo skimming scanning paragraph by paragraph quickly. Learning to read backwards to see is the information is relevant to use and learning to think of questions while reading. Take notes of the formatting as usually they would be important. Write notes straight after reading recall what you can remember.   The longer you wait to...
