Digital Media, Week 4, Video task

Digital Media, Week 4, Video Task

Digital Media to me before college was mostly graphic design such as logos, posters, advertisements on tv and web, and animations. Since watching the YouTube videos for Introduction to Digital Media, I have since learned that it is really anything got to do with communicating digitally. Such as web, mobile, news, banking, social media, education and work.

Skills I think digital media practitioners would need would be, knowledge knowing how to mix design with technology, graphic design, coding with HTML, CSS, JAVA SCRIPT and Adobe.

Tools I think digital media practitioners would use would be, Adobe software, pens, pencils, iPad, iPencil, camera, HTML, CSS, JAVA SCRIPT

Five ways I think digital media is different from traditional media would be :

1)Tv vs. Social Media, social media platforms have an advantage over television because unlike TV ads social advertising fosters communication between brand and consumer. Streaming online has such a big impact now with apps for streaming with more options.

2)Radio vs. Podcasts, anyone can make a podcast about anything really. Podcasts have extremely engaged listeners, most of the audience chooses podcasts they like where as radio shows discuss general topics which doesn’t engage with the audience as much as podcasts do.

3)Newspaper vs. news online, newspaper content has a small number of stories where as online news presents more stories and provides more control for readers to determine which stories to read.

4)Billboards vs. online advertising marketing, Billboards vary on location whether they get noticed by the right audience, where as online advertisement is all over social media, which consumers can communicate with.

5)Direct Mail vs. Email, Direct mail will cost money and it will take time to get to the right person where as email is free and you can get a response in less than a minute.

There was some surprising elements in the video like most jobs require you to know about computers, which you need so you can apply for a job. You would need to know how to use tech confidently, and that your capable to locate information, evaluate, analysis, organize, manage, sort, and store. Another surprise in the video was to know the aspects of being safe online and identifying and being aware of fake news. To  make your own opinions ask yourself who is this message for? You need to double check information as anyone can make something look authentic.

The reason I think a person would create a piece of media would be to provide information or to sell something maybe make a fake story about something or someone, for art and creative purposes, for work, businesses using social media marketing, for education and to create Brand advocates.

“The Medium is the message”

(MCLUHAN, M. (1967). This is Marshall Mc Luhan; The medium is the message. New York, NBC.)

This quote could relate to digital media in a way that media is a message.

I think this means that the media is used to communicate information and it has an significant impact on the messages they deliver to people including the perceptions about these messages. Media is where most people keep connected using social media messaging.

“It is an expression coined by Canadian educator and theorist Marshall McLuhan that often interpreted to mean that the forms and methods of the media are used to communicate information have significant impact on the messages they deliver including the meanings and other perceptions about those.” https://www.dictionary.com/browse/the-medium-is-the-message

(McLuhan, n.d.)

Digital Literacy usually have a mix of these below:

  • ·         Cg- Cognitive
  • ·         Cn-Constructive
  • ·         Co-Communicate
  • ·         Ci-Civic
  • ·         Ct-Critical
  • ·         Cr-Creative
  • ·         Cf-Confident
  • ·         Cu-Cultural

Media is largely one way meaning we only really do is listen, watch or read it.

In todays ultra networked world, digital media are interconnected and interactive with people. Online you are a part of an infinite network. You can connect to others very easily as they can connect to you.

You can find communities of users with common interests, values and beliefs. You can get instant access to people, information and knowledge from around the world with the use of Internet.

Production Process, Week 5, Video task

My thoughts on production process... To me design thinking is a philosophy and a set of tools to help you solve problems creatively. It is also a production process that helps you to organise effectively. It can be loosely divided into three stages these are Pre-production, Production and Post-production. I think it is important to be aware and learn about design thinking and various stages associated with design thinking. In the YouTube video by Aj & Smart by Johnathan Courtney CEO at AJ & Smart he shared that if you’re going to working with anything got to do with design thinking, is innovation taking the philosophy of design thinking and learning using something like the design sprint. As a recipe to run design thinking. I think digital media products that could apply design thinking to would be, films, documentaries, podcasts, vlogs.   Aj & Smart by Johnathan What takes place in the three stages of Production is first Pre-production, This is where ...

Another Revision, Week 9, Reading Task

pixabay photo Hi welcome back to my blog, The blogs I reviewed were  Ryan's Blog  for the week 3 reading task and  Milo's Blog  for the week 6 video task. I think they both did a great job on their blogs, I could just give them suggestions to add the source from where they got their opinion.  I learned from the comments on my blog that I have to start implying my experiences and feelings on the subject from Finn and that I should also add a conclusion paragraph to wrap it all up from Chloe. I also learned from Adam that he liked how I sourced the information on my blog and the way I lay it out. When I did the revise on my blog I implied the feedback which helped me a lot to know what I should be doing. Finn also gave me two good questions to help me make my blog clearer. They were “what’s the difference between Ethics and Morals” so I changed the paragraph to make it clearer on my revised blog. He also asked me “if I had any other examples of dark patterns ...

Reading Task, Week 10

free pixabay photo Hi welcome back to my blog. Today I will talk about how the peer review and the rewriting experience has gone over the semester. I have learned from the peer review task that I should add a bibliography at the end of every blog and add in text citations. I also need to start talking about the experience I have on the topic and how I feel about the topic which I have started to do in my recent blogs and plan to change on my previous blogs. I feel that my writing and reading skills have improved since my first feedback and even more since I got more feedback from other peers. I have received some great feedback overall to help me improve my blogs and know where I can make content easier and more enjoyable to read. Concise writing goal is to use the most effective words. To use the stronger words not always fewer. To get to the main point of the topic. (Arts, 2021) Too wordy sentences such as “It is the governor who signs or vetoes bills. – 9 words. Concise sent...
